Notes:

Stage 2
  • Initial training of your voice files.  In this stage you will read the paragraph provided by Naturally Speaking.
  • The reading of the paragraph is intended to train high accuracy of voice files, not for testing the users reading skills.  Therefore it is recommended that students or people with hesitancy of reading follow someone who is reading the paragraph out loud softly. Click here to see example video clip...
  • The audio setup wizard helps to determine if the microphone is set up and working well enough.
  • Try out different microphones to see which offers best accuracy.  The score you receive on Audio setup will give a good indication of microphone / hardware - software compatibility and functioning.  The score should be over 20 for best accuracy. Not all computers or sound cards are suitable for Naturally Speaking.  (See Nat. Speaking web site for compatibility charts)  In some cases, USB microphones work best since they bypass the sound card.
  • In the Notes section of this page, record the hardware used - type of computer, processor speed, RAM, and microphone.
