Quick and easy
setup to start your typing practice
Because we provide an online
typing tutor, you can use our site with a Windows or
Macintosh machine, and there's no software to install. If you
have a whole classroom full of computers in your kid's typing classes,
you don't have to install software on every one, saving lots of
time. In computer labs, where reinstallation is
inevitable with upgrades and technical problems, Custom Typing
Training is always available with an Internet connection. Your
students can be up and running immediately, once you've created an
account and entered student names.
A unique training program
All graphics and tutorials consist of
onscreen keyboards and fingers with large, bold, and very
clear graphics for easy viewing. Students can start by learning how to
position their fingers and reach each key by viewing
interactive demonstrations on finger placement and technique. Our program then
assists in building speed and accuracy. The program keeps
track of high scores, and shows a progress bar while the user is
practicing. Users will find
themselves challenged to keep improving their scores.

address (a convenient way for the teacher to receive scores).

provides an option to use an on-screen keyboard that matches the
LessonBoard's colors.

accuracy. We also include information on how to optimize work habits and environment to improve productivity and avoid

Additionally, we
provide the means to test various types of input methods, such as
special keyboards and software, and determine which works best for
each student. Our site can record which input methods are used
in a series of exercises. Then, by comparing scores, you can
see which one is best.
Assessment
tools and outcomes measurement
This web site was borne out of a need
for accurate, objective, easy and quick measurement and assessment
of student computer access. The following online checklists
and assessment forms are available:
- Assistive technology assessment
of alternate keyboard input and teacher / therapist resource
list - a 3 page form for assessing and recording students' use
of alternate software and hardware for writing. These
forms also provide resources in terms of links from alternate
devices to information web pages about each system.
- Speech recognition curriculum
and assessment form - a 1 page form for use in training
students in the use of the Dragon Naturally Speaking speech
recognition program. Online worksheets for students to use
with speech input are provided.
- Ergonomics assessment - a
checklist of points to consider when assessing students'
positioning while working.
- Vision - a self paced
student assessment of color combination preferences for
improving reading of text on the computer screen.
- Tests and exercises - a
wide range of texts for students to copy. These are timed
exercises which are recorded in the report. Reports have a
wide range of options for printing, and can be printed and/or
e-mailed to the teacher. Student scores over time are maintained
on the server and can be quickly accessed at any time by the
teacher or account administrator, from any internet-enabled
computer.
